GSM is grams per square metre — the standard measure of terry weight. More weight generally means more cotton in the loop, so a higher-gsm mat absorbs more before it feels wet underfoot and tends to feel more substantial. 700 gsm sits in the plush, hotel-weight range without becoming slow to dry.

Wash every one to two weeks, separately from other laundry, at 40 to 60°C. Skip fabric softener — it coats the cotton fibres and reduces how much water they can absorb. Tumble dry on a low setting for the softest result, or hang to dry.

With proper care you should expect several years of daily use before it starts to thin. Keeping two in rotation halves the wear on each and roughly doubles how long the pair lasts overall.
