How it actually breaks down
Every price tag on a set of bed linens comes down to the same four things, stacked: the quality of the raw material, the weave and thread count, where and how well it's actually made, and whatever margin the brand chooses to build on top.
Here's where we land on each, one at a time – starting with the cotton itself.
Founder of Juniper
Mathilda founded Juniper in 2019, after a stay at a small hotel outside Palma where the bed linens were unlike anything she had slept in before.
1. The material
It starts with what the fabric is actually made of. Supima is an extra-long-staple American cotton that makes up less than 1% of the world's cotton supply. Every batch is DNA-verified, so the name means something specific rather than being a loose description any brand can apply – closer to how Champagne works than a generic wine label: a specific growing method, tied to a specific place, enforced rather than just claimed.
The extra fibre length is what lets it be woven at a genuinely high thread count without the fabric turning stiff or heavy – and it's most of why the price starts higher than a cotton with no such guarantee behind it.

2. The weave and thread count
The same standard applies across our whole range, not just our top tier: yarn spun properly rather than padded out, woven at a family-owned factory outside Porto that has made bed linens since 1948, no shortcuts taken to hit a number on a label.
Our Supima sateen runs a genuine 430 thread count – reaching that without multi-ply tricks (short fibres twisted together to inflate the count) is only possible because Supima's long fibres can be spun that fine on their own. Classic Percale and TENCEL™ Lyocell run 300, woven for a crisper, cooler hand rather than sateen's sheen. Different fabric, same construction discipline – which is most of where the price goes across all three.

Our bestseller
One sheet, one large or two single duvet covers, and two pillowcases, woven from 100% Supima cotton and finished with genuine mother-of-pearl buttons, and every piece can be its own colour. Pair a Snow White sheet with a duvet cover and pillowcases in North Sea Blue. Rated 4.8 from over 1,100 customers, with a 30-day trial on every order.
3. Where it's made
Once the cotton is spun into yarn, it travels to a family-owned factory in Portugal that has been weaving bed linens since 1948. There, the yarn becomes our 430 thread count sateen and is organically dyed in its final colour.
In 2020, we decided every Tier-1 factory in our supply chain would sit inside the EU, where worker protections are stronger by law. That decision costs more than sourcing from wherever is cheapest that quarter – and it's not one we've reconsidered.
4. The brand markup
The first three are what a set costs to make. The fourth is what the brand chooses to add on top. Here is where that leaves us, compared directly against real premium alternatives rather than a marked-up mass-market brand.
Every fabric
Supima sateen, classic cotton percale and Tencel percale, all woven in Portugal. Compare the three and pick the one that suits how you sleep.
Customer reviews
The Bed Set has 4.8 out of 5 from 1,159 reviews, and counting.
Juniper's sateen sheets are the most comfortable sheets I've slept in. I've given them as gifts and gotten the same reaction.

Why the price is what it is
Juniper started from one very good night's sleep at a small hotel outside Palma, and a founder who then spent years finding a factory that could actually reproduce that feeling rather than approximate it cheaply.
The price reflects that starting point: real Supima cotton, woven properly, in a factory with a 75-year history of doing this one thing well. It was never built backwards from a number.
So why Juniper?
Four things set our sheets apart, all traceable back to where they're actually made.
The material
Under 1% of the world's cotton
The density
Dense, not heavy
The finish
A soft, hotel-suite shine
The origin
Not wherever's cheapest
Questions
A single sheet runs 1 150–1 900 kr depending on size, pillowcases 800–1 000 kr for the pair, and a duvet cover 1 900–2 800 kr. The Bed Set (sheet, duvet cover and two pillowcases together) is 4 500–5 400 kr depending on size, which works out cheaper than buying the same pieces separately.
Two things: the cotton and where it's woven. Supima is a DNA-verified, extra-long-staple cotton that makes up less than 1% of the world's supply, and it's spun into a genuine 430 thread count at a family-owned Portuguese mill rather than a lower thread count inflated with multi-ply yarn. Both cost more than standard cotton woven wherever is cheapest.
A comparable duvet cover from other premium Swedish bedding brands typically runs 1 800–2 200 kr at around 200–300 thread count. Juniper's is 2 800 kr at 430 thread count in DNA-verified Supima cotton – a higher price for a materially different fabric, not the same fabric marked up.
