The weave

300 thread count percale

Percale is the oldest, plainest weave there is: each thread passes over one and under one, in a tight, even checkerboard rather than sateen's longer float. That plain construction is what gives percale its character: a crisp, matte hand and a cool, dry touch against the skin, closer to a fine cotton shirt than to a silk. We weave it at 300 thread count from 100% long-staple cotton, dense enough to feel substantial without losing the breathability percale is prized for.

The finish

Tailored pleats, hidden closures

Each pillowcase closes with a neat envelope fold and three tailored pleats at the opening, so it sits smooth and square against the pillow. No ties or poppers to feel through the cotton, just a clean, hidden finish.

Frequently asked questions

How does Juniper's Classic Cotton Percale differ from other bed linens?

We weave 100% long-staple cotton into a 300 thread count percale: the plainest, oldest weave there is, prized for its crisp, matte hand and cool touch. Everything is made in a family-owned factory in Portugal that has crafted bed linens since 1948. Better raw material and skilled craftsmanship is what gives the sheets their hotel-like feel.

Why is Juniper able to sell bed linens of this quality at a lower price point than other brands?

We spend very little on advertising. We trust that delivering a superior product at a better price will make people talk, so our customers do the marketing for us by recommending Juniper to their friends.

Is Classic Cotton Percale right for me?

If you like your bed linens crisp and cool rather than silky and lustrous, yes: percale is the classic, breathable choice, closer to a fine cotton shirt than a sateen's soft sheen. If you are after that softer drape instead, our Supima Sateen may suit you better. And if you are unsure, you can quite literally sleep on it: every order comes with a 30 day trial and a full refund if you are not satisfied.

What does 300 thread count mean and how will it impact me?

Thread count is the number of lengthwise and widthwise threads in a square inch of fabric. Percale is woven in a plain, one-over-one-under construction rather than sateen's longer float, so it does not need as high a thread count to feel dense and substantial. 300 is a classic, well-tested range for a crisp finish that still breathes.

What is percale weave and how is it different from sateen?

Percale and sateen are both cotton weaves, but the construction differs. Percale is a plain weave (each thread passes over one and under one), which gives it a crisp, matte finish and a cool, dry touch. Sateen floats each thread over several before tucking under one, which is what gives sateen its soft sheen and fluid drape. Neither is better; they simply feel different, and percale is the more classic, traditional choice.

For how long will the bed linens last?

With proper care you should expect more than five years of daily use. We recommend keeping two sets per bed and rotating them, which extends the life of each set to around ten years.
