Fitted Sheets – Size Guide & Smart Folding Tips

Fitted sheets can be tricky to fold neatly due to their elastic corners. Follow this simple step-by-step guide:

✔ Hold the sheet inside out – Insert your hands into the bottom two corners from the inside.

✔ Tuck one corner into the other – Fold the bottom corners into the top ones so the elastic edges meet.

✔ Fold the edges – Place it on a flat surface and fold each side twice, until they meet in the middle.

✔ Smooth and fold – Smooth out any air and fold from the bottom to the top until desired sizs.

Measure your mattress length, width, and depth before buying a fitted sheet. In Sweden and most of Europe, standard bed widths are 90 cm (single), 120 cm, 140 cm, 160 cm (queen/double), and 180 cm (king), all typically 200 cm long. The fitted sheet should match these dimensions exactly. Pocket depth matters too — most fitted sheets have a 30 cm pocket, which fits mattresses up to about 28 cm tall. If you have a thicker mattress or a mattress topper, look for deep-pocket options (35–40 cm).

Folding a fitted sheet flat takes practice but follows a simple method. Hold the sheet lengthwise with two corners in each hand, elastic side facing you. Tuck one corner into the other on each side so the elastic edges nest together. Lay the sheet flat and smooth it into a rectangle, folding the rounded elastic edge inward. Then fold into thirds lengthwise and thirds again widthwise for a compact, stackable square. The key is getting all four elasticized corners tucked into one another first.
