Umberto Garabello built Landet Stay across 400 hectares of untouched Swedish archipelago: a scattering of minimalist cabins meant to do less, not more, for the people staying in them. He worked with the architect Andreas Martin-Löf and the interior designer Tobias Vernon of 8 Holland Street, and the result reads as unmistakably Scandinavian with something more worn-in, more European, underneath it.
Each cabin runs 42 or 52 square metres, no bigger than that by design. Floor-to-ceiling windows turn the surrounding pine and birch into the main decoration, and the wood Martin-Löf chose for the interiors does the rest: warm rather than showy, the kind of finish that asks to be touched more than looked at.

On the feeling he was chasing
"When I first moved to Sweden about six or seven years ago, I fell in love with the way of life in the Swedish landet," Umberto says. "It's that feeling of slowing down, of being surrounded by nature, spending time with loved ones, and focusing on what really matters. That's what we wanted to capture with Landet."
Landet is the Swedish word for countryside, used the way Scandinavians use it when they mean somewhere specific and half-mythical rather than just any patch of land outside a city. Umberto's version of it isn't rustic. It's closer to what he calls quality that surprises you rather than announces itself: comfort and craftsmanship handled carefully enough that a guest stops noticing the effort and just notices the result.

"We wanted something comfortable and well-designed, but still deeply connected to its surroundings," Umberto explains. "Everything should feel intuitive, the lighting, the heating, the small touches that make you feel at home, yet still quietly surprising in its quality."
On the quiet guests keep mentioning
"There's nothing quite like getting into a crisp, fresh bed," Umberto says. "The Juniper sheets are a perfect partner to our cabins, they complete the experience."

He puts most of it down to the forest, the kind of silence that doesn't really exist within city limits, and the rest down to the beds: Videung frames paired with Juniper sheets, a combination he settled on early and never revisited.
The guest list already includes writers, musicians and designers, many of whom arrive a little frayed and leave, by Umberto's account, restored, alongside babymoons, milestone birthdays and engagements in the first year alone.

"I love seeing the creative energy people leave with," says Umberto. "There's something about the stillness here that sparks ideas."
The partnership with Juniper has held for a reason ordinary enough to sound like nothing: both were built around details nobody points to directly, a sheet's texture, the calm of a morning view, that a guest feels anyway without being told to notice them.

Landet Stay is, by Umberto's own account, only the beginning. Further locations are already in the works, each one meant to carry the same three things forward: nature, simplicity, and the sense of actually being somewhere.
