The headboards: the story behind Juniper's first collection
Juniper began with bedding and the boutique-hotel feeling at home. Over time it has grown, and now we are launching our first headboards.
It began with a visit to a boutique hotel
Juniper was founded in spring 2019 by Mathilda Wibom Westerberg, after a night at Grand Hotel Son Net in Mallorca and a wish to bring the boutique-hotel feeling home. It started with bedding. Since then the range has grown to include towels, bathrobes and fragrance, as well as decorative cushions and bedspreads in our decorative collection. Every piece is meant to make the home feel like a small boutique hotel.
A headboard with presence
The headboards are the next step. They complete the bed and give the bedroom the calm and harmony you want to sleep in, with room to leave thoughts and noise at the door.
“Lovely bedding is everything. But when it is dressed with decorative cushions and a headboard that belongs with the rest, the bedroom gets the calm and harmony you want to sleep in. We wanted to bring the boutique-hotel feeling home.” - Mathilda Wibom Westerberg, founder
Presenting the headboards at our event on Strandvägen 7.
Inspired by Palma
The collection is inspired by the turn-of-the-century apartments of Palma, with high ceilings, terracotta, clean lines and soft textures. Sand, stone and sea have become softness and depth, which is why the colours are earthy and the shapes gentle.
From shape to bedroom
The best part of the work was designing the shapes and pairing them with fabrics that build the bedroom.
We wanted the headboards to feel like something you would meet in a boutique hotel in southern Europe, with soft, graceful curves and real presence in the room. That is why they stand 120 cm tall, higher than you usually see.
The Grand: a soft curve that rises in the middle. The Residence: a classic, arched top edge with cut-in corners.
Both come in every size, from 90 to 210 cm.
The fabric matters as much as the shape. The first fabric world comes from a French textile house. The velvet has the feel of aged leather, in calm, deep shades such as Tuscan Forest, Sunrise Sand and Shadow Lake. The second comes from an English family company founded in 1865. Its fine floral pattern on cotton-linen adds a little playfulness, while staying quiet from a distance, in colours inspired by Palma.
The fabrics are the same as in our decorative collection, so you can complete a headboard with cushions and a bedspread in matching fabrics and let the whole bed come together.
Made for your bed
Every headboard is made to order at a sewing studio in Östermalm, Stockholm. You can also custom order one, in a different fabric, shape or size. For interior designers creating something unique for a client, and for private customers, we book a consultation in our store at Grev Turegatan 50, where we go through the fabric options together.
This is our first collection, and the range will grow.
The headboards launch on 4 November on our website and in store. You can see the fabrics up close in the store.
