Small details that make a big difference in your guest bathroom

The room nobody lives in is the one a guest reads first.

Fresh, matching towels: the fastest way to make a bathroom feel considered.

When I started Juniper, I became almost obsessed with the feeling of a well-considered home. Especially the small spaces, the ones you don't always think about, but that say the most. The guest bathroom is one of them. With a few thoughtful choices, it can feel calm, welcoming and quietly luxurious, almost like a boutique hotel. Here are five things I always come back to.

Keep it minimal

For me, this is always the starting point. A guest bathroom should feel calm the moment you step into it. I usually remove anything that doesn't need to be there and let only the essentials remain: a hand soap, a towel, maybe one considered detail. The fewer things you see, the more intentional everything feels. Think hotel, not everyday clutter.

Invest in guest towels

This is something I always notice when I visit someone's home. Having dedicated guest towels instantly makes the space feel more thoughtful. I like placing them out in the open, neatly folded or hung, never hidden away. It's a small gesture, but it creates that feeling of being expected rather than accommodated.

Offer face towels

If you want to elevate the experience, this is such an easy addition. I always love when there are smaller towels available, it feels considered in a very effortless way. It gives your guests the option to freshen up, and adds that subtle hotel-like touch.

Scent, but only just

A guest bathroom should smell like nothing, then faintly like something nice when you lean in. I keep an unlit candle out on the shelf rather than anything burning, so it never announces itself before someone's even opened the door.

Nobody lives in a guest bathroom, which is exactly why it tells a visitor everything.

Light it for the evening, not just the morning

Guest bathrooms tend to be lit for shaving and make-up: bright and a little flat, which stops feeling right after six in the evening. If there's a dimmer, use it. If there isn't, a candle on the counter does more for how the room feels at night than anything else on this list.

None of this needs a renovation. It's five small decisions, made once, that make a bathroom feel like it was thought about.
